Why NyayLens AI exists

Legal AI today has one critical flaw.

Generic legal AI tools hallucinate citations. In Indian practice, that isn't a bug — it's professional risk.

Problem

The Problem

AI chatbots invent case names, fabricate paragraph numbers, and cite judgments that don't exist.

Risk

The Risk

A single fake citation in a pleading is professional negligence — and courts have started sanctioning it.

Solution

NyayLens AI

A CRAG-based AI system that verifies every citation against real judgments, links every claim to source text, and flags uncertainty transparently.

Result: court-ready research, not guesswork.

Frequently asked

Questions before you start.

Does Nyay Lens hallucinate citations?+
No — every cited case, section, or authority is pulled from our verified corpus and grounded before the answer is returned. Our CRAG (Corrective Retrieval-Augmented Generation) pipeline runs a verify step that flags or removes any citation it can’t ground in source text. If NyayLens cannot verify, it tells you — it does not invent. Every rendered citation also carries a Citator badge (Tier-1 pill, Tier-2 hover-card, Tier-3 full lineage timeline) so you can see at a glance whether an authority is good law, distinguished, doubted, or overruled.
Which Indian courts are covered?+
NyayLens covers 18.8M+ Indian judgments — 39,158 Supreme Court of India decisions (1950 to today) and 18,824,596 judgments across all 25 High Courts (Allahabad 2.82M, Bombay, Madras, Patna, Punjab & Haryana, Calcutta, Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, MP, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, J&K, Gauhati, Tripura, Manipur, Meghalaya, Sikkim). Plus 1,807 statute sections across 29 central Acts (BNS 358/358, BNSS 531/531, BSA 170/170 in full, plus IPC, CrPC, IEA, Constitution, Contract Act, CPC, Companies Act, Arbitration Act, IBC, GST, IT Act, RERA, Specific Relief, Limitation, NI Act, and more) and 6,315 judge profiles. Refreshed daily from the AWS Open Data registry.
Why is some High Court coverage thin?+
We mirror the AWS Open Data registry — that is the data India's courts have actually published openly. Coverage maps to publication, not to true case volume. Allahabad publishes 2.82M; smaller HCs (Sikkim, Meghalaya, Tripura) publish fewer because they hear fewer matters and digitise on different cadences. We carry everything the registry exposes and refresh daily.
How does the Citator work?+
Every citation NyayLens renders is cross-indexed against a 165,000+ parallel-citation crosswalk (AIR, SCC, SCC Online, SCR, INSC, JT, SCALE). On top of that, 1,188 cases are classified for treatment status — good law, distinguished, doubted, partially overruled, overruled. When a citation has been overruled, NyayLens shows a red pill inline. Hover for 2-tier detail (which judgment overruled it, when, on what point). Click for the full 3-tier lineage timeline. No other Indian product on the market builds the Citator on a 18.8M-judgment graph.
Is my query data used to train AI models?+
No. Queries and documents you upload are processed for your answer only, not used as training data for any third-party model. API calls to our inference provider (Anthropic) are sent with zero-retention headers. Personal data is scrubbed where possible before dispatch. See our Privacy Policy and DPDP Act page for full details.
How much does NyayLens cost?+
Starting at ₹999 per user per month on the Starter plan — 10–25× cheaper than existing Indian legal-research platforms. Firms get volume discounts and a dedicated onboarding manager from ₹25,000/mo. See the Pricing page for full tiers.
Can I search in Hindi or a regional language?+
Yes. The NyayLens interface supports 8 languages — English, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Gujarati. You can phrase a query in any of these and get results linked to English-text judgments. Support for regional-script judgment bodies (Marathi/Tamil judgments) is in active development.
What about confidentiality for client matters?+
Multi-tenant isolation guarantees your firm’s matters are never visible to any other tenant. NyayLens does not train on your private documents. Primary servers are in India (Mumbai/Hyderabad). For enterprise firms, we offer single-tenant deployments and VPC peering.
Does NyayLens integrate with my existing practice management tool?+
If you already use CourtNetra CMS, NyayLens is built in — same login, same workspace. For external CMS tools, we offer a REST API (paid tier) to push research output directly into your case files.
What about BNS, BNSS, BSA (the new criminal codes)?+
All three are fully indexed — BNS 358 of 358 sections, BNSS 531 of 531, BSA 170 of 170. Sourced from the NCRB SankalanPortal (Govt of India). Cross-references between old IPC / CrPC / Evidence Act and the new 2023 codes are auto-maintained: a query for "IPC 302 murder" surfaces both IPC § 302 AND BNS § 103. New-only provisions (e.g. BNS § 69 deceit-promise, § 103(2) mob-lynching, § 304 snatching) appear standalone.
